FAQs on Advice & Assistance system for Criminal Justice Act

Friday, Aug 03, 2018

Part 1 of the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2016 was implemented on 25 January 2018, bringing in new police station procedures and rights to legal advice.

New police station fees were proposed and consulted upon by SLAB and the Scottish Government, and a new and simplified advice and assistance intimation and payment system for police station work was introduced on 25 January 2018.

This new system is generally working well, and a number of system updates and improvements have already been introduced recently, such as those to allow system administrators to submit claims and to record the location of the police station involved.

However, there are a number of areas where we are still regularly receiving queries and we hope that the following FAQs will assist solicitors when using the system.

For more information please contact:
Kingsley Thomas, Head of Criminal Legal Assistance, on 0131 240 2085 (thomaski@slab.org.uk) or Karen Shaw, Accounts Team Leader, on 0131 240 2058 (shawka@slab.org.uk).
