Parole Board cases: scope of ABWOR available and initial limit of expenditure

ABWOR is available for representation of a designated life prisoner, a prisoner treated as a designated life prisoner, or a prisoner subject to an extended sentence, at all stages of proceedings before a Part IV tribunal, including a preliminary hearing before the chair of a tribunal.

The initial limit of authorised expenditure in such a case is £215.  You can apply for increases in authorised expenditure in the usual way by applying through legal aid online.  The increase application should fully set out:

  • the type of prisoner
  • that Part IV of the 2001 rules applies
  • the work to be done and a detailed breakdown of costings for this.
