Sight of a bank statement can give a broad initial view as to your client’s financial circumstances. If your client has not brought a bank statement, they may alternatively be able to obtain an ATM mini-statement or you may view their statements via an online banking app.
If your client is ineligible on capital, they are also ineligible for advice and assistance even if they are in receipt of a passported benefit. This is important to note as many mistakenly think that the receipt of a passported benefit in itself demonstrates that the client is financially eligible for advice and assistance. This should never be assumed as your client may receive benefits and still hold capital in excess of the prescribed limit.
