Where you believe the cost of the work is likely to exceed the £135 or £180 limit, you must apply to us for authority to exceed the limit, using the online increase application,
For some types of case, we give templates which, if you meet certain criteria, allow us to grant one increase to cover your work without you having to come back to us for further authorisation.
If you are requesting a template increase on a second or subsequent increase, you will also require to give an update on the background of the case and what work has been carried out to date.
We have created a tool that contains the templates, showing the work you should already have done in order to use the specific template, and the work you can do and the upper limit of expenditure under that template.
Advice and Assistance application procedures
This page includes information on how to apply for non-templated increases in expenditure under civil A&A. It covers the information you should provide us with; case-related factors to address in your application; the process for reconsideration of refused increases; the process for urgently needed increases; whether authority for retrospective increases is available; and other guidance you may wish to consider.
