Engagement Events – Criminal Code of Practice & Fee Reform

Friday, Jul 07, 2017

Details are now available of the solicitor and local Faculty meetings we advised you we would be holding following the recent consultation on the draft Code of Practice for Criminal Legal Assistance.

We analysed the consultation responses and based on that feedback, we have been developing revisions to the draft Code. Among the matters we want to discuss with you are:

  • the police station and duty requirements
  • your views on proposed revisions to the draft Code
  • how we should design the arrangements for solicitors who do very little or no criminal work but who want to remain on the criminal register
  • the information you would find helpful to be published alongside the Code on how SLAB manages its own statutory responsibilities

We will also seek your views on proposals for reform of Summary and Solemn Criminal Legal aid fees and update you about the proposals for Police Station advice.

The meetings all start at 4.30pm and will run to about to 6.30pm. They are open to all solicitors registered for criminal legal aid and no advance booking is required.
